Animal Control
The Animal Control Officer performs responsible work in the enforcement of State laws and City ordinances pertaining to the licensing and control of dogs and other regulated animals; investigates complaints involving dogs and other animals; patrols the City as necessary to enforce animal laws and ordinances. Position also performs duties of Parking Enforcement Officer.
Frequent contact with the public. Other Contacts are with the Humane Society and local Veterinarians. Impounds stray dogs. Issues complaints, civil forfeitures, and summonses. Organizes annual rabies clinic.

A. The Animal Control Officer works Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays.
Q. When Are Dog Licenses Due?
A. Dog licenses expire April 30 every year. Dogs can be licensed in person at the City Clerks office M-F 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Dogs can also be licensed by mail. Contact the City Clerks Office at 332-2130 or visit City Clerk’s Office web page.
Q. What Do I Do With a Stray Dog?
A. During the week if you want to report a stray dog call Animal Control at 330-7122 or dispatch at 330-7127. On the weekends, Animal Control can be paged out by dispatch 330-7127, if the dog is restrained or contained.

A. As there are currently no laws regarding cats running at large we recommend people with cats they believe to be stray to take them to the Cocheco Valley Humane Society at 262 County Farm Cross Road in Dover 603-749-5322.
