Incorporated in 1722 and first settled in 1728, the City of Rochester was organized as a town in 1737 and later achieved city status in 1891. Spanning approximately 49 square miles, Rochester is the largest city by population and land area in southeastern New Hampshire. With a current population of around 32,000 and continuing to grow, Rochester has managed to retain its charming country appearance despite its steady expansion.
About the Department
The Rochester Police Department operates under the guidance of a three-member Board of Police Commission. We are a highly trained and professional law enforcement organization, committed to protecting life and property, preventing crime, and fostering positive public relations.
We continually advance our technology to better serve the community, featuring upgraded networked computers and a newly renovated, state-of-the-art communications center. This website is another tool that enhances our service through technology. Our department actively supports youth programs such as DARE, the school lunch program, and our own Explorer Post. We offer advanced training programs and oversee various community policing projects. Every member of our department is dedicated to our mission of protecting life and property. We rely on the community's support in our policing efforts, with citizens serving as our invaluable "eyes and ears" in the community. Together, we strive to maintain a safe and secure environment for all.
